Dotty Weekly News

Hello. It’s me. I haven’t been online since last week. Nope, I don’t know why – just the thought of turning on my laptop gives me a big dready feeling but I’ve been so bored today I thought ‘Right, Dotty, just TURN THE FUCKING THING ON,‘ so here I am with it turned on (for how long, I don’t know).

This is what’s happened in my week –

The death of an unliked relative.

The funeral of the aforementioned unliked relative. I didn’t go – I’m a people phobic she-hermit, I don’t do funerals. And I’m also not a HYPOCRITE.

A urinary tract infection that fucking hurts. A lot. And it’s made me so tired I keep sleeping – like Sleeping Beauty without the Beauty. I’m on my second lot of antibiotics, the first week’s worth were SHITE, they didn’t work.

I made a thing to eat that wasn’t Cumberland sausages. It had roasted BUTTERNUT SQUASH and SWEET POTATOES, and boiled PASTA (the pretty bows), and dry-fried lean MINCE, and DOLMIO LOW FAT BOLOGNESE SAUCE, and an ONION, and I baked it all together in the oven with some cheese on top. It tasted very nice.

I’ve been trying to find some books to give to the charity shop (because I have to clear a room) but I CAN’T FIND ANY BOOKS THAT I CAN PART WITH. I’ve been through the bookcases in my living room, the bookcases in my hallway, the bookcase on my landing, the bookcases in my bedroom, and the bookcases in my spare room, and I’ve looked through some of the stacks. But I haven’t started on the boxes yet so I might find one there.

Okay, I’ve had enough now. If you don’t see me beforehand, I’ll come back next week.

P.S. Last week I changed the comment thingy to allow your comments to go straight through because I’m such an ignorant cow I knew I wouldn’t be back online to approve and answer them. Sorry.

  1. Dear Dotty,
You are sorely missed. What is mince? I want that pasta for dinner tonight. Sorry about the UTI. I’m old and have a thing called a fluttering bladder that feels like a UTI but can’t be cured. So there’s more than you asked for.
    Love,
    Maggie

    • Dear Maggie,

      Hello! 🙂

Mince is meat chopped into little bits. If you don’t buy the good stuff, mince is meat and gristle chopped into little bits (NASTY!)

Your poor fluttery bladder – how do you put up with it? I’ve had this about three weeks now and it’s pissing me off (pun very much INTENDED 🙂 )

      • Dear Dotty,
ahhh hahahaha. I take the OTC UTI meds and that calms it down till it gets ruffled again. Old age is a bitch. You have me on the prowl for some good cheesy casserole thing to make for dinner and watch a movie under a good blankey.
Feel better soon. We miss your shite.
        Love,
        Maggie

Good to see you, Dotty – and now with added recipes! (Non-cumberland-sausage ones, no less.)
Take care. Been wondering how you are, and missing you.

    • Dear Anne Banana,

      Hello, hello, hello. 🙂

My recipe is indicative of the state of my writing brain – mush, mash and MINCE! (and it was also the highlight of my week – I lead SUCH an exciting life).

    • Dear Benjamin,

Hello. 🙂 It’s like re-entering the REAL world, writing these replies. I might come back and do some more tomorrow. 🙂

      1. Yes, it’s me!

      2. Surprisingly it was, even without the Cumberland sausages. I might try another new food next week. 🙂

      3. Most definitely.

      4. Thank you. I don’t understand people who can easily get rid of books. They’re mental.

      Lots of love Dotty xxx

  4. Dear Dotty,

Yay, it’s so good to see you! I’m glad you enjoyed the pasta, it sounds pretty good. Sorry about the UTI, they blow. They always recommend cranberry juice to help, but I hate cranberry juice. And I can’t part with books either. I just can’t. They’re like friends. Except nicer.

  5. Hello Dotty! It’s been too quiet without you. I totally agree on the parting with books difficulty. They’re precious things. They impart wisdom, but they do not require you to do anything for them in return except keep them warm and dry.

  9. Your SUCH exciting life is more exciting than mine. Cooking something new which is edible is a highlight for me. I’m thinking I will try to make your bow tie pasta – it sounds divine 🙂 Bloody UTI’s…drink aspirin water (if you can) and also bicarb disolved in warm water to take the edge off it. And, whatever you need to do with that room can it not be done with books in situ? Giving any away unless they are crap (find that copy of Shantaram) is a desperate measure and will be regretted… last night over a few wines we were discussing books of the past eg, The Falconhurst series by Kyle Onstott and sadly they’re gone, with a lost family collection of old books thoughtlessly chucked out by not me, along with priceless copies of Old Yeller, etc. I have an obligatory funeral to attend this week, and it sux, but I have to go for the living not the dead. See, not exciting.

  10. Good to see you back, Dotty! You know, it’s not too late to get a recipe book in the shops in time for Christmas…. The Delightfully Dotty Delicatessen Dictionary and Bonkers Book of Dinner Recipes. I think you’d give Fearnly-Whittingstall and Blumenthal a run for their money with that!

  11. Dear Dotty,

Very strange — I’m experiencing a very similar feeling about my laptop. I’ve never let this many posts go by without reading them. Going to try to catch up tonight.

Don’t you call my friend an ignorant cow! Your dinner sounds lovely —

    Love you lots, my friend,

    Dear Dotty,
I’m always happy to see your postings regardless of the topic. Your meal really sounded appetizing too and I wish I could have tried some even though I can’t eat much in my diet. I have expanded it to regular pasta recently…hooray!

I can understand how hard it us to part with your books, even one or two because they become part of a memory and if it’s good why part with it. The only books I’ve sold or given away successfully are ones belonging to others or used school texts. But I have resorted to purchasing mine for Kindle now because my of my brother’s book habit. There really isn’t any room available for another book collector here.

Sorry about your UTI….had one once and I was flying from Germany back to Boston when it made it’s initial appearance known to me. Needless to say, the flight was very uncomfortable. I hope yours passes soon. Have you tried the cranberry pills? My daughter gets them all of the time and uses AZO pills and antibiotics too.
Hope you do feel better soon. No pressure till next time.
    Love Dorothy

    Dear Dotty,

I would have swapped out the Dolmio sauce and made my own yummy bologneise sauce from scratch (tomatoes, puree, garlic, herbs) but it otherwise sounds delicious. I’ve made Jamie Oliver’s butternut squash curry in the past, which is also wonderful.

UTIs suck. Do you have any Cymalon or cranberry juice to help ease things a little?

    We miss you.

  16. Hope you get better soon, Dotty. I’m quite shocked at the non-Cumberland sausage culinary breakthrough. It almost seems like flying in the face of nature. Sounds very tasty, though. Know exactly what you mean about books.

You must simply do what you have to do, Dotty. We are creatures of moods. However, it pains me when you call yourself an ignorant cow. Ignorant cows do not have the book problem you do.

    Dear Dotty,

Where oh where can you be? I am being starved of Cumberland sausages!

I have another UTI, got married and have been in a fillum for the Paralympics.

I do hope that Kumblant hasn’t eaten you.

    Love,
